Creative showers
The Shower is a private space within the household that is used within a scheduled, habitual timing. A very negligible time is spent showering compared to our daily 24 restless hours of distraction, work, and the remaining hours of routine activities. A specific space dedicated for a specific task and time, usually during the evening or in the morning. Why does it almost always have to be the morning or the night? Why not shower in twice, if the purpose were to cleanse the body and shower off the sweat of the night and dirt of the day. Creative Showers is a map to creativity. 8 minutes of absolute creativity (Harvard Sustainability). 8 minutes to marinate and bake. 8 minutes is all it takes for our brains to reach an Aha! Moment within the suitable environment. 8 minutes in the shower. The art of creative bathing is a mysterious phenomenon that is site and time specific. A space and time that we have produced and developed throughout our evolving bathing practices. What is it about the shower that keeps our creative thinking patterns going? A person tends to spend an average of 8 minutes a day in the shower (Harvard Sustainability). 8 minutes of physical and mental silence. 8 minutes where planning and memory fade away while the mental ability to connect between contexts, events, and emotional responses functions at its best (Carson 16). It is the ability to think creatively through connecting the dots between thoughts that have been cooking in the brain. The Shower Atlas explores the required parameters to form a suitable environment for creative thinking. The hormone, dopamine, produced by the shower space specifically has a latent temporal after effect. Unlike its release through nicotine and other drugs, shower dopamine reaches a peak and forms a plateau at the top for three hours after the event of the shower. Unlike any other dopamine inducing substances and activities, the shower is able to prolong the joyful feeling of satisfaction even when stepping out of it. Moreover, the shower is a safe and silent space. It is the only space where one is away from any distractions, media, information, and planning. It is a space originally designed for human hygiene, social standards, and physical appearance. What if these 8 minutes of showering were extended in the shower? What if we have come to design a 24/7 Shower? Will the shower become an infinite generator of creativity?
